The Indian Women's Hockey Team displayed resilience and spirit but narrowly missed out on victory, losing 2-3 to Australia A in their second match of the Australia tour at the Perth Hockey Stadium on Sunday.
Jyoti Singh (13') gave India an early advantage, but Australia A responded strongly with goals from Evie Stansby (17'), Dayle Dolkens (48'), and Jamie-Lee Surha (52'). Sunelita Toppo (59') managed to pull one back late for India, but it wasn't enough to prevent defeat.

India started the game with high energy and pressed Australia A from the outset, creating early opportunities and forcing the hosts onto the back foot. Their persistence was rewarded towards the end of the first quarter when Jyoti Singh successfully converted a penalty corner to hand India a 1-0 lead.
However, Australia A regrouped quickly in the second quarter. They earned a penalty stroke, which was calmly slotted home by Evie Stansby to level the scores at 1-1. Despite several attacking moves from India thereafter, the hosts maintained a strong defensive line, ensuring the teams went into halftime tied.
The third quarter saw end-to-end action, with both sides eager to break the deadlock. Australia A dominated possession early on, but India showed their counter-attacking prowess and finished the quarter on a strong note. Yet, with the match still evenly poised at 1-1, it was all to play for in the final quarter.
Australia A seized control in the early stages of the fourth quarter as Dayle Dolkens found the net to put them ahead. Minutes later, Jamie-Lee Surha extended their lead, making it 3-1. India kept fighting and were rewarded when Sunelita Toppo scored just before the final whistle. Despite their late efforts, India couldn't find the equaliser, and Australia A clinched a narrow victory.
The Indian Women's Hockey Team will next face the senior Australia side in the third match of their tour on Thursday, May 1, at 14:40 IST.
