Indian women's hockey forward Deepika has etched her name into the history books by becoming the first Indian player to win the prestigious Poligras Magic Skill Award.
Her electrifying solo goal against the Netherlands during the Bhubaneswar leg of the 2024-25 FIH Hockey Pro League earned global acclaim and topped the fan vote to clinch the honour.

The 21-year-old produced a moment of magic in the 35th minute of India's clash with World No. 1 Netherlands. With India trailing 0-2, Deepika launched a stunning solo effort down the left flank, slicing through the Dutch defence, dribbling along the baseline, lifting the ball over a defender's stick, and coolly slotting it past the goalkeeper. Her goal sparked India's comeback in a match that eventually ended 2-2, before they triumphed in the shootout.
The Poligras Magic Skill Award, determined entirely by a global fan vote, celebrates the most dazzling and skillful plays in the FIH Pro League. Deepika's goal was shortlisted alongside entries from Spain's Patricia Alvarez and the Australian women's team. Her triumph not only marked personal glory but also signified a milestone for Indian hockey on the world stage.
On the men's side, Belgium's Victor Wegnez took the award for his sublime midfield sequence that led to a team goal against Spain.
Reacting to the recognition, Deepika said, "I am truly honoured to have won this award. Scoring that goal against a challenging opponent like The Netherlands was truly a special moment for me and now receiving this recognition means a lot. I thank my teammates, coaches, family and friends who continue to support and inspire me everyday."
She added, "This award isn't just mine, it's belong to Indian hockey. Let's keep pushing forward together."
