Hosts India will be up against South Korea in the final match on Monday (August 7) in the Hockey Asian Champions Trophy 2023 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai. It promises to be an exciting encounter as two top-ranked Asian teams collide against each other.
India are sitting 2nd in the table with seven points after three games, while Korea sit third with five points playing the same number of matches. A win for either team will ensure their progress to the semifinal today and it is to be seen how things pan out. Korea drew their last match against Japan 1-1, while India blew away Malaysia 5-0.

They now have 10 points after four matches. But the Indian team may have to win against Pakistan to keep their top spot. The final round of the group stage matches will be played on Wednesday. It is all over in Chennai and India prevail the Korean challenge to go top of the table. It is consecutive wins for the hosts as they win 3-2 against Korea today. Korea made a valiant effort but in the end it was just too much for them. Nilkantha Sharma, Harmanpreet Singh and Mandeep Singh scored the goals for India. Korea have taken off their keeper and will go with all eleven outfield players now. India have only around a minute to see out and if they can, they will go to the top of the table and ensure top two spots. Goal! It is a big goal for Korea as Jihun Yang scores from the penalty corner. With just three minutes to go, it will be a nervy final moments for India. South Korea have been given a penalty corner, but they are appealing for a penalty stroke. But unfortunately they will have to move ona s they don't have any referral anymore. Just four minutes to go in the match, and India's latest effort from Karthi Selvam takes a touch from one of his teammates and goes out harmlessly. The Indian team won't be happy with this quarter performance though. They haven't created anything. And now Manpreet Singh got a Green Card, but it was then revoked after the two umpires had a talk. Varun Kumar's terrible pass opened things up for Korea but the attacker blazes his backhand over the goal. Huge scare survived by India Korea made a referral to question a dangerous play but the video umpire has upheld the on field decision and Korea lose their review. Korea have again won a flurry of PCs, but the Indian defense have stood tall yet again. No way out for Korea, as Sreejesh saves it. That was another chance for Korea but they fail to convert the ball which was drilled in from the right side, but win a PC. But Jihun Yang's drag flick is repelled by India. Jang Jonghyun leaves the field with a stretcher. The Korean captain was hurt and can't continue. India have failed to score despite a couple of decent chances. Mandeep's backhand was saved, and then Sukhjeet also fails to convert the rebound. Korea won four consecutive penalty corners but they are unable to capitalize as the Indian defense keeps it out. The hosts survive and preserve their two-goal lead. Korea win the penalty corner as the video umpire deems it as an intentional clearnace. Sukhjeet moves forward with the ball but Korea win it courtesy of Jang JongHyun. Choe Leonpark and Korea come forward and now have asked for a review for a deliberate clearance by Sumeet. Harmanpreet Singh's penalty stroke is superly saved bu the Korean keeper, who goes down low on his right to keep it 3-1. Amit Rohidas injects a decent ball and Harmanpreet Singh's shot is stopped by Jang JongHyun, which earns India a penalty stroke. The final quarter starts and India make a fast, bright stat to the match. The circle entry was excellent but the cut back is cleared. But India come again and win a penalty corner now. India end the third quarter with a cushion. The hosts lead the match 3-1 and a step closer to move to the top of the table. India are eyeing to score their 4th but have been content with possession. Korea can't get the ball of the Indian stick as we are just a minute away from the end of 3rd quarter. Mandeep Singh misses to trap the ball and immediately apologises. Had he trapped that, India would have surely made it 4-1. But it is not to be as we head into the conclusion of the 3rd quarter, just three minutes to go now. India lose their referral as it is unsuccessful. Manpreet Singh lost the ball but Vivek Kumar wins an interception for India as the hosts move forward. India take a review after a quick counterattack for a penalty corner, as they claim a stickcheck. India have a comfortable lead with two third of the game done and dusted. Karthi Selvam drills one ball after a decent run but the ball goes out for a long corner. A foot touch in the circle and India now have a penalty corner to defend. Korea have a chance to restore parity. Amit Rohidas makes another lose pass, and the Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh is not happy on the bench.
