Captained by Salima Tete, the Indian team showcased resilience, maintaining their undefeated streak in the tournament despite a challenging second half. India got off to a strong start, taking a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Sangita Kumari and Deepika.

Their commanding play initially suggested a straightforward path to victory, but a lapse in concentration allowed South Korea to stage a comeback in the third quarter. In quick succession, Korea capitalised on India’s defensive errors, with captain Yuri Lee converting a penalty stroke to level the score at 2-2, setting up a tense final quarter.
As the clock ticked down, India intensified their efforts, pushing deep into the Korean defence. Their persistence paid off in the dying moments when Navneet Kaur was fouled inside the circle, earning India a crucial penalty stroke.
Deepika confidently stepped up to the spot, firing a precise shot into the bottom left corner to seal the win for India with less than three minutes remaining. She was later named the Player of the Match for her decisive contribution.
South Korea had one last opportunity to equalise with seconds left on the clock, but a pass from Kim just missed connecting with a diving teammate, allowing India to hold on for a memorable victory. With two wins in two matches, India is now poised as a strong contender in the tournament.
Elsewhere, China delivered a dominant performance against Malaysia, securing a 5-0 win. YU Anhui’s early penalty corner set the tone, and China continued to build on their lead, with goals from WANG Lihang, HAO Guoting, and TAN Jinzhuang. China’s clinical execution kept Malaysia at bay throughout the game.
In another exciting fixture, Japan and Thailand battled to a 1-1 draw. Thailand showed remarkable resilience after their loss to China, matching Japan’s intensity and maintaining a balanced defence. Both teams displayed tenacity, creating a closely contested game with opportunities on both sides, leaving the match evenly poised.
