A disappointing run in the pool stages, the India U-21 women's hockey team is playing for pride as they take on New Zealand in the classification stage match at the Centro Deportivo de Hockey Césped, Estadio Nacional - Pitch 1 in Santiago, Chile
India had a bright start to their Women's FIH Junior World Cup 2023 as they galloped over Canada 12-0 in their opening Pool C match. However, back-to-back defeats to multiple champions Germany followed by Belgium meant India couldn't reach the knockout stages.
Finishing third means they entered the classification stages and will fight for ninth place in the Women's FIH Junior World Cup 2023 after finishing a creditable fourth last year in Malaysia. Mumtaz Khan is the star performer for the side with six goals to her name while the likes of Deepika Soreng and others have been impressive as well despite the disappointing end to the title run.
