Indian and Pakistan will be locking horns against each other in Round 5 of the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 today (August 9) at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai. The Indian team have already qualified for the semifinals, while Pakistan will have to avoid defeat to secure their berth in the last four.
India so far have 10 points in four matches and they are the only unbeaten side in this edition of the Hockey Asian Champions Trophy. Pakistan, on the other hand, have five points after four matches.

Pakistan will play for pride
On Friday (August 11), Pakistan will lock horns with China in the first match of the day and fight for the fifth place finish. Having already defeated China in the group stage, the Men in Green will fancy their chances.

India by virtue of this win, have finished the league stage at the top of the table followed by Malaysia, Korea and Japan. We have our four semi-finalists in India, Malaysia, Korea and Japan. Malaysia will take on Korea in the first semi-final on August 11 while India will take on Japan in the second semi-final in the final match of the day.

Pakistan's campaign ends
With this defeat, the Pakistan hockey team's journey in the tournament comes to an end as they failed to qualify for the semi-finals. The young side had plenty of positives in its campaign.

Full Time! India have completed a comprehensive 4-0 victory over arch-rivals Pakistan and continue their unbeaten run in the tournament. It was a superb show from the Men In Blue as they managed yet another cleansheet and it was their inspirational skipper Harmanpreet Singh who led from the front, converting a couple of penalty corners. Akashdeep and Jugraj also put their names in scoring sheet.

Goallll!!! It's Akashdeep Singh's turn to put his name on the scoring sheet. A superb shot from Mandeep Singh as he outfoxed the Pakistani defender and goalie towards the goal post and Akashdeep just deflected in time to score. India 4-0 Pakistan.
India continue to dominate
Indian strikers consistently make circle entries and pose a threat to Pakistani defence but they haven't been successful to hit the mark. The scoreline still remains 3-0 in favour of India.
IND 3-0 PAK at the end of third quarter
End of the third quarter and Team India are 3-0 up in the match. Jugraj swelled the hosts' lead but his teammates failed to score on a couple of occasions. Pakistan too got a penalty corner but failed to capitalise.
Another opportunity missed for India
Karthi Selvam gift wraps a brilliant goal to his fellow teammate Akashdeep Singh but the latter spilt the opportunity on the left side of Pakistan's goal post. There wasn't anyone near Akashdeep but he couldn't collect the ball properly and push it into the nets.
India's goal negated
Harmanpreet Singh - the man in form - had scored his third goal of the match - this time a field goal. But the on field umpire went for a review and the TV umpire concurred it was a dangerous hit. India weren't awarded the goal. IND 3, PAK 0.
Jugraj scores the third goal
Goallll!! Third goal for India in the game and all of it came via Penalty Corners. This time it was Jugraj Singh - who converted the penalty with a solid drag-flick - and India took a 3-0 lead in the 36th minute of play. It has been a dominant show from the hosts so far.

Pakistan came forward with purpose but India keeper PR Sreejesh throws his body away and saves the blushes. Karthi Selvam is also shown a Green Card for an offense and will sit out two minutes on the bench now.
