The Indian women's hockey team will look to continue their winning run as they play their fifth and final round-robin match against South Korea in Ranchi on Thursday (November 2).
India have already qualified for the semifinals as group toppers (12 points) with convincing wins over Thailand (7-1), Malaysia (5-0), China (2-1), and Japan (2-1). The victories against China and Japan were special as they are the giants of Asian women's hockey.
South Korea, on the other hand, are holding the third place in the round-robin stages with seven points but will be looking for a win or a draw at the least if they wish to play the semifinal. South Korea will take motivation from the fact that they held India for a draw in their last encounter at the Asian Games 2023 a few weeks ago but Janneke Schopman and her side have been a different beast in front of home fans in Ranchi.
While India may test their bench strength with the top spot booked, coach Schopman has been sweating over the amount of goal-scoring chances missed by her side. India's penalty conversion has been under the scanner as well with just four of the 21 PCs converted this Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023.
Forward Sangita has been in fine scoring form since scoring a hat-trick against Thailand in the opening group encounter. Since then she has scored against Malaysia and Japan as well. Vandana Katariya has gone without a goal in her last two games and must be egging on to score more before the semis.
South Korea are capable of pulling out surprises as well with a shock win over China (1-0) before being humbled by Japan 0-4. The side was also held for an unexpected draw against lower-ranked Malaysia.
