Tokyo 2020 bronze-winning and the most successful side in Olympic history, Indian Men's Hockey Team eye second successive medal at Summer Games when they take on Spain in the Paris Olympics 2024 bronze medal match on Thursday (August 8).
India missed out on upgrading the colour of their medal following a 2-3 defeat to Germany in the semi-final. Now, they will have to battle Spain to finish on the podium. India though have a great record when it comes to third-place playoff matches, winning all three of their previous attempts.

Earlier in Paris 2024, the Indian team rode PR Sreejesh's heroics to overcome Great Britain via a penalty shoot-off in the quarter-final. In the pool stage, they suffered a defeat to Belgium and drew with Argentina, but wins over Australia, New Zealand Ireland saw them top Pool B.
Spain, on the other hand, had to settle for a third-place playoff after being blown away 0-4 by Netherlands in the semi-final. The three-time silver medallists had earlier finished 4th in Pool A after wins over Germany and South Africa as well as draw with France.
In the pool stages, Spain had suffered defeats to Netherlands and Great Britain. Now, they face an opponent who has had great success against them in the past and also play only their fourth bronze medal match in Olympic history, having lost two of three in previous attempts.
As mentioned earlier, this will not be India's first meeting against Spain, having met them in Olympics several times in previous editions and also in various other competitions such as World League Final, Champions Trophy and Test matches. Here is a look at the head to head record:
In 34 meetings so far, India hold a 16-12 advantage over India with 6 matches ending in a draw. In the last 5 matches India hold a 4-1 advantage over Spain with two of their wins coming via shootoffs. Here is a look at the results from their meetings from the data available on FIH:
