Indian Colts, PSB enter Nehru Hockey semis

By Staff

Gurgaon, Nov 22 (UNI) Indian Colts and Punjab and Sindh Bank (PSB) won their respective matches in Pool A to qualify for the semi-finals of the Nehru Hockey Tournament here today.

While Indian Colts pipped Western Railway 1-0 in a hard fought encounter, PSB had a much easier outing, as they thrashed a hapless Heroes Club, Pakistan 3-1.

Indian Colts emerged as the top team in Pool A, winning all their three matches while PSB qualified for the last four stage as the second best team in the group with six points from the same number of games.

The clash between Indian Colts and Western Railway was an exciting affair. Both teams played fast, attacking game and Western Railway, who needed a win to stay alive in the tournament, gave a good account of themselves.

There was very little to choose between the two teams with only Mandip Angil's (54th min) brilliant field goal handing the Colts the full three pouints.

The Indian Colts, boasting of several players from the Indian squad in their ranks, enjoyed the greater part of the possession but were hampered by a lack of experience which saw them make several mispasses.

They could have scored quite a few more goals but Western Railway goalkeeper Suraj Kanta pulled of several brilliant saves to deny them.
