Perth, Apr 13: The Indian Men's Hockey Team on Saturday (April 13) suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat against Australia in the fifth and final match of the five-match Test series. The Harmanpreet Singh-led side's journey, thus, ended with a dismal 0-5 margin as they remained winless throughout.
Harmanpreet Singh (4') and Boby Singh Dhami (53') scored one goal each for India, while Jeremy Hayward (20'), Ky Willott (38'), and Tim Brand (39') found the back of the nets for the hosts.

In the opening quarter, India began with a deliberate strategy aimed at controlling possession and dictating the pace of play. This approach allowed them to penetrate Australia's defence several times, resulting in successive penalty corners. Captain Harmanpreet Singh (4') seized the opportunity, skillfully converting a grounded shot with accuracy and speed.
With the scoreboard in their favour, the tourists intensified their offensive pressure, consistently testing Australia's defence and it eventually helped them maintain their 1-0 lead by the conclusion of the first quarter.
In the early stages of the second quarter, India took a proactive approach, seeking to extend their lead and assert control against Australia. However, despite their efforts, the home team unexpectedly earned a penalty corner, which was expertly converted by their standout performer, Jeremy Hayward (20'), to level the score.
With the game tied, Australia heightened their offensive pressure, constantly challenging India and coming close to scoring on numerous occasions. Despite the increased intensity, neither team managed to find the back of the net again before halftime, leaving the score deadlocked at 1-1.
During the third quarter, the Indian team launched an aggressive offensive plan. Abhishek had a promising opportunity within the D area, facing only the goalkeeper, but regrettably, he couldn't convert his shot effectively, missing a golden chance.
Meanwhile, Australia seized their counterattacking opportunities, with Ky Willott (38') and Tim Brand (39') scoring field goals in quick succession. This rapid succession of goals propelled the hosts to a commanding 3-1 lead as the third quarter drew to a close.
In their endeavour to stage a comeback, India heightened their intensity against Australia, applying relentless pressure and executing swift passes. Their persistence paid off when Boby Singh Dhami (53') coolly scored his first international goal, narrowing India's deficit to just one goal.
This goal injected confidence into the Indian team, igniting hopes of a possible turnaround in the match. However, despite the determined efforts of the visitors, Australia managed to thwart India's attempts to equalize, ultimately clinching a thrilling 3-2 victory in the match.
As the Indian Men's Hockey Team reflects on its performance Down Under against a strong opponent like Australia, they will have to draw lessons and prepare themselves well for the forthcoming Paris Olympics 2024 in July-August.
