Mandependa family lifts Mandetira Hockey Cup

Madikeri, Karnataka, May 7 (UNI) Mandependa Family team lifted the Mandetira Hockey Cup defeating Anjaparvanda Family 7-6 in the finals of the inter-family hockey tournament here today.

The final which proved to be a edge of the seat thriller, was level at 1-1 after extra time and even tie-breaker failed to break the deadlock as the two teams were again locked at 6-6. Mandependa emerged winners in sudden death with International Player Prakash scoring the winning goal.

Devaiah opened the account in the 14th minute for Mandependa, while Roshan Madappa scored the equaliser in the 64th minute for Anjaparvanda family.

In the tie-breaker both the teams scored five goals each.

However, in the sudden death, it was Prakash, who succeeded, while Abhina Chettiappa's hit went outside the post.

Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Kandrathanda Kaverappa distributed the prizes.
