Men's FIH Junior World Cup 2023 gets underway in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur from December 5 to 16 with 16 teams participating, including two-time champions India, who last won the title in 2016. India's campaign starts on the opening day itself against South Korea.
India are drawn in Pool C with Spain and Canada as the other teams with the top two teams from the pool progressing to the quarterfinals. The bottom two will play for 9-16 classification stages. Five-time champions Germany are in Pool B while Argentina and Australia are drawn in a tough Pool A.

Pool B: Egypt, France, Germany, South Africa
Pool C: Canada, India, South Korea, Spain
Pool D: Belgium, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan
The teams qualified for the tournament through respective continental championships while Malaysia automatically qualified as the hosts. Five nations (Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Spain and France) qualified from Europe while four teams (India, Pakistan, South Korea, and Malaysia) made it from the Asian Championships.
Three South American teams (Argentina, Canada, Chile) from the 2023 Junior Pan American Championship while South Africa and Egypt qualified for the Junior Africa Cup. One of the main title contenders, Australia qualified from Oceania, along with New Zealand.

India have participated in ten of the twelve World Cups and is the nation with the second-highest record, behind Germany. India finished second in the 1997 edition and won the championship twice, in 2001 and 2016. India placed fourth at the 2021 edition, which was hosted in Bhubaneswar, following a 3-1 loss to France in the bronze medal match.
