MP bags show hockey match crown

Bhopal, Jun 11 (UNI) Amid a new experiment of entertainment, glamour and cheer leaders, the 'Show Hockey Match', which was organised to rejuvenate the old glory of sport, was completed with all the pomp and show here.

The match was played between Indian Olympic Stars and Madhya Pradesh Olympic Stars at the T T Nagar Stadium yesterday in which the latter won the battle 4-3.

The star of the match Madhya Pradesh Olympian Sameer Dad fired a hat-trick while his team mate Mohammad Yusuf scored one goal. In reply, Sanjay Bisht scored two goals and team mate and Indian Hockey Team Captain Dilip Tirkey had one goal.

Mohammad Said was the goalkeeper for Madhya Pradesh Stars and his counter part was Arvind Chhabra.

After the half-time, the match restarted in the backdrop of a local championships award ceremony, which continued for a long time, puzzling the sport lovers regarding its utility in a hockey match.

''I was a bit upset with the local tournaments's prize distribution programme but it may be taken place due to time shortage,'' said former Indian Hockey Team Captain Dhanraj Pillay, adding that I would like to visit the town again if any match would be played to revive the sport.

Interrupting the ongoing match, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh arrived and presented cheques to the players.

Later, cheer leaders', music and dance programme was started with the match in progress.

Besides Dhanraj, Sameer, Yusuf, Bisht and Tirkey, several hockey veterans, including Mir Ranjan Negi Padmashri Ajit Pal Singh, Mukesh Kumar and Dilip Tirkey, Arjun awardees Michel Kindo, Ashok Dhyanchand, Zafar Iqbal, Jagbir Singh, Olympians Aslam Sher Khan, Charles Cornelious, Mehboob Khan and Madhya Pradesh Star players Jalaluddin Rizvi, Sameer Dad and Gafoor, arrived here for the match.
