Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey Tournament 2024: Teams, Schedule and Fixtures List, Prize Money

The 95th edition of the All India MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey Tournament will be held from September 19 to 29, 2024.

This will see participation from 10 teams pooled across two Groups and a various number of teams across different sectors will take part in it.

Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey Tournament Teams

Ten teams will participate in the tournament and they have been divided in two pools.

Pool A: Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), Indian Army Red, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Hockey Maharashtra, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu (HUTN)

Pool B: Hockey Karnataka, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), NCOE Bhopal, Central Civil Services Cultural & Sports Board, Hockey Odisha

Tournament Prize Money

The prize money for the top two teams is ₹7 lakh for the winning team and ₹5 lakh for the runner-up.

There will also be a cash prize of ₹50,000 each for the semi-finalist teams, in addition to a cash prize of ₹10,000 given along with a high-end Hercules bicycle each to the best forward, best midfielder, best goalkeeper, the most promising player of the tournament and the man of the match of the finals. Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Egmore, Chennai, will continue to be the venue for the tournament.

TI Cycles of India will present two special awards - 'Hercules Most Stylish Player of the Tournament' and 'Hercules High Performance Player of the Tournament'. The winners will each receive a Hercules hi-performance bicycle. E.I.D.-Parry (India) Limited will also be giving away two special awards - Parry's Jaggery Powder Fastest Player of the Tournament and Parry's Dals Strongest Player of the Tournament. The winners will receive a cash prize of ₹10, 000 each along with a gift hamper.

The 2nd MCC-Murugappa TN U-17 Boys School Hockey Tournament took place between September 12 to 14th, 2024. Indira Gandhi Higher Secondary School, Madurai won the tournament beating Satchidananda Higher Secondary School, Mettupalayam 2-1 in the final match on Saturday, September 14, 2024. While the previous edition of this tournament saw school teams from Chennai competing for the title, this year's tournament was expanded to include teams from other districts in Tamil Nadu - Madurai, Hosur and Mettupalayam.

Details of the tournament were announced at a press conference held today by Madras Cricket Club (MCC) and Murugappa Group, the two institutions that are organizing this tournament. Mr. Niranjan Mudaliar, Honorary Secretary, MCC welcomed the gathering. The MCC was represented by Mr. Vivek Kumar Reddy, President of MCC, and Mr. S L Rajiv Reddy, Organising Secretary, briefed the Press. The Murugappa Group was represented by Mr. Arun Murugappan (also known as Mr. M.A.M. Arunachalam), Executive Chairman, Tube Investments of India Limited.
