New Delhi, Oct 8 (UNI) The annual Nehru hockey tournament will begin at the capital's Shivaji Stadium from October 10 with the girls under-17 competition.
According to the schedule, the girls' tournament will be followed by sub-junior boys under-15 category from October 18 to 31 and junior boys under-17 competition from October 31 tpo November 13.
The main attraction of tournament -- the senior level competition -- is scheduled for November 14 to November 25.
Announing this, general secretary of the Nehru Hockey Tournament Society, G Nandy Singh said the Nehru tournaments have acquired added significance in the backdrop of India's recent successes, though he lamented lack of interest by the media as well as by different organisations like universities, para military forces and armed forces in riviving the game in the country.
''Universities, para military and military organisations have no dearth of money and land, but they have not thought about the development of hockey,'' Mr Nandy said.
The girls' under 17 tournament will see 22 teams in action including defending champions SGNP Girls Senior Secondary School, Shahabad.
