Nehru sub-junior hockey to start on October 18

New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) The 26th ONGC Nehru Cup Sub-Junior (U-15) Hockey Tournament for boys will be held at Gurgaon from October 18 to 31.

Talking to mediapersons here today, Secretary of the Nehru Hockey Tournament Society, Wing Commander Nandi Singh said, ''a total of 20 teams from all over the country will take part in the tournament.

The opening match will be played between Sanjeevan Vidya Niketan, Kolhapur and MDN Public School, Rohtak.'' Nandi also informed that the soceity will also organise the 37th ATS Nehru Junior Hockey Tournament for boys (U-17) from November 1-14 and the 45th Jindal Steel Nehru Hockey Tournament for Men from November 14-25.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist also revealed that efforts are on to ensure the participation of two foreign teams in next year's edition.

''Bringing teams from Pakistan is very difficult but I am keen to bring teams from Malaysia and Korea. Teams from these countries will increase the prestige of the tournament,'' Nandi said.

The winners in the junior and sub-junior sections will receive a prize money of Rs 2.6 lakh each while the champions in the senior category will get Rs 5 lakh.
