Dadwal dismisses threat to CWG, Hockey World Cup

New Delhi, Feb 16: As the Pune blast triggers fear of terror strikes during the Commonwealth Games (CWG), Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal said on Tuesday, Feb 16, that there is no threat to the CWG, adding that elaborate measures have been taken to ensure terror-free Hockey World Cup.

"We see no threat to the Commonwealth Games," Dadwal said.

Dadwal was responding to questions concerning the security threats to the Commonwealth Games and World Cup Hockey at the backdrop of Pune blast in which 10 people were killed and 57 others were injured.

Assuring of safe and problem free sporting events, Dadwal said that elaborate arrangements have been made for the events to take place without any fear.

Meanwhile, Home Secretary GK Pillai too has assured full security arrangement for the Hockey World Cup.

"We have a very good security plan in place for the Hockey World Cup. We will ensure that all participants are safe," Pillai said.

Earlier, al Qaeda leader, Ilyas Kashmiri while issuing threats of terror attacks to India, had warned international community against sending their sportsperson to participate in upcoming major events like CWG, IPL and Hockey World Cup.
