Olympics 2024: 'Proud of You' - Twitter pour Love as India suffer heartbreak in Hockey Semifinal

The Indian hockey team faced a heartbreaking loss to Germany in the Olympics 2024 semifinals on Tuesday, August 6. Despite their best efforts, Harmanpreet Singh and his team were narrowly defeated with a score of 2-3.

India started the match with great energy, dominating the first quarter. Their relentless pressure resulted in several penalty corners, putting Germany on the back foot. Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored the opening goal with a deflected strike that beat the German keeper, giving India an early lead. They maintained this advantage until the end of the quarter.

Germany responded strongly in the second quarter. Gonzalo Peillat equalised from their first penalty corner. India had chances but couldn't convert, with Lalit Upadhyay missing a crucial opportunity. Christopher Ruehr then put Germany ahead with a penalty stroke, leaving India trailing at halftime.

In the third quarter, India fought back valiantly. Harmanpreet Singh scored again to level the match. The teams entered the final quarter tied, and Germany was denied early on by Sreejesh's save and Sanjay's goal-line block.

The decisive moment came in the 54th minute when Marco Miltkau's shot found its way past Sreejesh. India had one last chance to equalise, but Shamsher Singh's shot went just over in the dying seconds and they suffered the defeat.

The hope for a medal is not entirely gone as India will face Spain in a Bronze medal match. Despite the defeat, the fans hailed the Indian team for their fantastic performance. It was indeed a disappointing defeat, but the Men in Blue have played some excellent hockey in this Olympics and the fans acknowledged that.
