Orissa teams record contrasting wins in Nehru Hockey

New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) Bikash Kujur slammed a hattrick as Birsa Munda Vidyapith, Rourkela, trounced Govt school, Jarkar,Ludhiana, 7-1 in the 36th ONGC Nehru Junior Boys Hockey Tournament.

The teams were locked 1-1 at half time. Birsa Munda snatched the lead in the 43rd minute through Stanli Minz. He followed it up almost immediately with his second goal. Thereafter, Orissa stamped their authority all over the match as the team fron Punjab barely got a chance to make a comeback.

Bhupinder Pal Singh scored the consolation goal for the losers.

In another match, Town High School, Sundergargh, downed Indira Priyadarshini School, Bhopal, 4-3 in an exciting encounter.

It was a high adrenaline, see-saw affair that saw both teams scoring in quick succession. Town High School was leading 3-2 at the stroke of half time.

The team from Bhopal surged ahead in the 24th minute through a field goal by Jeeshan Malik. It was neutralised a few minutes later when Mangal Kispotta scored from a penalty corner.

The match then witnessed a goal rush as the two equally matched opponents battled for supremacy. Ernees Surin (2) and Jagdish Soreng(1), scored for the winners while Amer Rehmah and Washim (one each) replied for the Bhopal team as the spectators held on to the edge of their seats.

Birsa Munda Vidyapith, Rourkela, play Govt School, Ladowali, Jalandhar, tomorrow. Guru Harkishan Public School, Shahdara will square off with Govt School, Gurgaon while SGPS Academy, Ludhiana will face Army Boys Sports Sports Coy, Bangalore.
