PSB thrash Pak team in Nehru Hockey

Gurgaon, Nov 22 (UNI) Formidable Punjab and Sindh Bank (PSB) outclassed a hapless Heroes Club, Pakistan 3-1 in their Pool A encounter at the Nehru Hockey Tournament here today.

While Naginderjit Singh, Navpreet Singh and Gurbinder Singh Chandi scored for the Punjab team, Atif Baig reduced the margins for the visitors.

The game was mostly confined to the Pakistan half as PSB with several players with international experience in the star studded line up toyed with the rivals.

The visitors from across the border were left clueless as PSB playing a quick, passing game with good build-ups unleashed attack after attack on their citadel.

The domination of the Punjab team can be gauged from the fact that the Pakistan team failed to win a penalty corner in the entire match.

PSB could have won the game by a much bigger margin if their forwards had made better use of the chances which came their way.

PSB surged ahead in the third minute, when Naginderjit struck home from a penalty corner. They doubled the lead through another penalty corner goal by Navpreet (44th min).

The Punjab team further put the issue out of the reach of their opponent through a brilliant field goal by Gurbinder.

Baig (62nd min), however, got the consolation goal for the Pakistan team.

PSB with six points from three games are at the top of the Pool along with India Colts who have same number of points from two outings.

The Pakistan team faced an uphill task as they lost both the matches they have played so far.

India Colts will take on Western Railway in another match later this evening.
