SAI, Punjab National Bank Hockey academy book final berths

Mumbai, Aug 28 (UNI) Punjab National Bank Hockey Academy (Delhi) and (SAI) Sports Authority of India Lucknow scored hard fought victories to make the final of the under-19 inter-academy hockey tournament at the Mahindra Stadium here today.

PNBHA (Delhi) edged out Surjit Hockey Academy (Jalandhar) 2-1, while SAI overcame favourites Punjab and Sind Bank Hockey Academy by 3-2. Both the teams won via the golden goal after the teams were locked at 1-1 and 2-2 respectively at the end of 70 minutes of regulation time.

In the first semifinal between Punjab National Bank and Surjit Hockey Academy, the former took the lead in the 32nd minute through Siddhart Shankar.

In the second half, Surjit Hockey Academy equalised in the 54th minute through Manjinder Singh, forcing the match into extra time.

Four minutes into the first half of extra time, Arjun Anti scored a superb field goal to put Punjab National Bank into the final.

In the second semifinal, SAI (Lucknow) stunned Punjab and Sind Bank academy by 3-2 after the teams were locked at 2-2 in regulation time.
