SAI to lay synthetic hockey surface in Amritsar

New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI) Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar signed an MOU here today to lay a synthetic hockey surface in the University Campus.

The MOU was signed by Northern Regional Centre Director in-charge SAI, A K Sharma and R S Bawa, on behalf of SAI and GNDU respectively in the presence of Sayan Chatterjee Director General SAI.

As per the MOU, the cost of laying the surface will be borne by SAI while the recurring expenditure for its upkeep will be met by the Guru Nanak Dev University.

It will also provide for utilisation of the surface not only by the players of Guru Nanak Dev University, but will also for holding National Coaching Camps and Inter-SAI tournaments.

In addition, the laying of the surface will meet the much needed demand of a synthetic surface in the University and adjoining cities and also help in promoting hockey in Punjab which is one of major nurseries of hockey in the country.

Speaking on this initiative of the SAI, Sports Minister M S Gill said, ''SAI would be signing similar MOU's with others reputed institutions in the future to facilitate the faster laying of such synthetic hockey surfaces across the country.'' UNI RAR RKM SB CS1938
