SBI honours Indian mens' hockey team for lifting Asia Cup

Bangalore, Nov 21 (UNI) The State Bank of India today honoured the Asia Cup winning Indian men's hockey team and announced a cash award of Rs one crore.

In a glittering function held here today, SBI group Chairman O P Bhatt presented the cheques to Indian Hockey Federation Secretary General K Jothikumaran. Each player in the 18-member squad along with Chief Coach Joquim Carvalho and Manager R K Shetty were rewarded with Rs five lakh each.

''Our national hockey team has made the country proud by lifting the coveted Asia Cup with a convincing win. Our players have shown great determination, exemplary team work and dedication to the game,'' he said.

India beat South Korea 7-2 in the final played in Chennai in September this year.
