Sports ministry awards Indian women's hockey team

New Delhi, Jan 21 (UNI) The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports today awarded the 14-member Indian women's hockey team for their performances in Asian Cup (2005), Commonwealth Games (2006) and Asian Games (2006).

Secretary (Sports) S K Arora gave away the cheques ranging from Rs 1.5 lakhs to Rs 4 lakhs.

He stated that the Ministry of Sports will give all possible support to the women's hockey team to motivate them further.

The women's hockey team won the Asian Cup in 2005, silver medal in the Commonwealth Games 2006 and the bronze medal in the Doha Asian Games in 2006.
