Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2024 Final: Japan beat Pakistan in penalties after Four Goal Thriller

Pakistan Hockey Team lost to Japan after getting beaten in penalties on Saturday (May 11) at the Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh, Malaysia.

Japan beat Pakistan 4-1 in the penalties after a 2-2 stalemate at the full time. Pakistan's quest to be the Azlan Shah Cup Champion ended in disappointment.

Seren Tanaka gave Japan the lead in the first quarter. The Japanese veteran scored a goal in the 12th minute to give his team the lead. It was a slender lead for Japan till half time, but Pakistan staged a superb comeback in the third quarter.

Ajaz Ahmed equalized in the 34th minute, and then the Green Machines took the lead through Abdul Rehman in the 37th minute. Kazumasa Matsumoto produced the equalizer for Japan just at the start of the fourth quarter. The match ended 2-2 after Full Time.

In the penalty shootout, disaster struck for Pakistan as their players couldn't find the back of the net. Japan, on the other hand, managed to score their goals from the spot and thus won the Azlan Shah Cup.
