Bengaluru, December 8: India fought valiantly but went down to Olympic champions Argentina 1-0 in the semifinals of the Hockey World League Final at Bhubneswar on Friday (December 1).
The difference between India and Argentina was a 17th minute goal by Gonzalo Peillat. Peillat had another superb moment on the field when he effected a brilliant tackle against Akashdeep in the dying moments of the game.
The Indian player was well on his way to score with only Argentine goalkeeper in front of him. But Peillat executed a one-handed stop that snapped India's final hope of finding an equaliser.
This will be Argentina's first Hockey World League Final summit clash and they will face either Germany or Australia. They will face each other in the last four clash on Saturday (December 9).
India now can look forward for a third-place play-off.
