Women's FIH Hockey5s World Cup 2024: India Beat Poland and USA To Go Top In Pool C

The Indian Women's Hockey Team on Wednesday kicked off their Women's FIH Hockey5s World Cup 2024 with a thrilling victory against Poland 5-4 in Muscat. They backed it up with another 7-3 win over the USA in the second match of the day.

Mumtaz Khan (4', 23') and Deepika Soreng (6', 29') scored braces during India's high-scoring thriller triumph against Poland. Deepika Soreng (23' 25') scored a brace in the second match too while Mumtaz Khan (17') scored her third goal of the tournament.

The game against the USA saw Mariana Kujur (20' 22') score a brace as well after Mahima Chaudhary scored the opening goal for India in the 17th minute. Ajmina Kujur scored the seventh goal in the 29th minute of the match.

In the Poland game, the Indian Women's Team was quick to take the lead with Mumtaz Khan (4') scoring a field goal early in the first half. Deepika Soreng (6') soon doubled the lead with another field goal just a couple of minutes later.

With five minutes remaining in the first half, India's lead was cut to 2-2 thanks to field goals by Julia Kucharska (8') and Marlena Rybacha (10') of Poland. By the end of the first half, India was ahead 3-2 and Mumtaz Khan (14') had come back to score her second goal.

Both teams kept each other from scoring any goals in the first part of the second half of the match, which was quiet early on. But because to some excellent passing, India managed to maintain pressure on Poland. Mariana Kujur (23') was given a chance to double India's lead, and she delivered, as they won 4-2 thanks to her great finish.

Paula Slawinska (27') intercepted an Indian pass with three minutes remaining and scored to cut the goal deficit to one. But soon after, Deepika Soreng (29') scored, giving India a two-goal advantage once more. With just a minute remaining, the score was 5-4 in favor of India thanks to a quick goal from Monika Polewczak (29'). The Indian Women's Team won the game 5-4 by maintaining their lead.
