Johannes Floors Biography

Jo began his athletic journey in swimming, where he won silver and bronze medals at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Olomouc, Czech Republic. However, due to a shoulder injury, he had to quit swimming in 2010. Inspired by US Ironman competitor Scott Rigsby, Jo transitioned to Para athletics in 2011.

Para Athletics Debut

Jo made his debut for Germany in 2015. He trains under coach Erik Schneider at TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Despite facing an injury at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he has continued to excel in his sport. He was unable to compete in the T44 400m event due to this injury.

Memorable Achievements

One of Jo's most memorable achievements is successfully defending his gold medal in the T62 400m at the 2023 World Championships in Paris. His actions during this event earned him the Special Award at the 2023 German Sports Fair Play Awards. He consoled US athlete Hunter Woodhall after Woodhall's prosthesis broke before the men's T62 400m final.

Jo has received numerous accolades throughout his career. In 2021 and 2016, he was awarded the Silbernes Lorbeerblatt, Germany's highest sports award. He was also part of the team named the 2016 Team of the Year by the National Paralympic Committee of Germany.
