He began practising athletics in 2001 and took up decathlon in 2009. His passion for sports was inspired by his sister Sandra. He pursued higher education at Ana G Mendez University in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he earned a master's degree in recreational and sports services administration.

Career Highlights

He represented Colombia in non-Para athletics and placed eighth in the decathlon at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. Despite a back injury disrupting his training in 2019, he persevered and continued to excel.

In 2020, he became the second Colombian to win a Paralympic gold medal in athletics by claiming gold in the men's F38 javelin at the Tokyo Games. This victory remains his most memorable achievement to date.
