Metelka's passion for sports began early. After his accident in 2009, he was eager to get back into physical activities. "The accident turned my world upside down but as soon as I could get out of hospital I was back in the gym and trying to exercise as I was doing before," he said.

Paralympic Achievements

Metelka competed in road cycling and track cycling at the 2016 and 2020 Paralympic Games. His performance at the 2020 Games in Tokyo was particularly noteworthy. Alongside table tennis player Jan Riapos and shooter Veronika Vadovicova, he took his career Paralympic medal tally to six, setting a record for the Slovak National Paralympic Committee (NPC).

In addition to his Paralympic achievements, Metelka also competed in non-Para cycling at the 2016 World Cup event in Glasgow, Scotland. His versatility across different forms of cycling highlights his dedication and skill.

Metelka's accolades are numerous. He received the Golden Pedal of 2022 from the Slovak Cycling Federation (SZC). He was named Para Athlete of the Year for 2015, 2020, and 2021 by the Club of Sports Editors of the Slovak Syndicate of Journalists (KSR SSN). In 2016, he was named Male Para Athlete of the Year in Trnava, Slovakia.

Prosthetic Innovations

Living in the United Kingdom since losing his leg, Metelka has benefited from advanced prosthetic technology. The PACE Rehabilitation organisation in Cheshire has designed a dozen custom prosthetic legs for him, tailored for various sports like running, skiing, mountain biking, and rollerblading. In 2013, he received a £55,000 bionic prosthetic ankle that allowed him to walk faster and use less power.

Personal Life

Metelka is partnered with Viky Halaszova. He speaks both English and Slovak fluently. His hobbies include rock climbing and surfing. He pursued coaching education at Oxford Brookes University in England.
