Junko-chan made her debut for Japan in 2013. Her passion for judo was ignited by a manga she read, which led her to pursue the sport seriously. She has been coached by her husband, Haruka Hirose, since 2015.

Junko-chan met her husband, Haruka Hirose, at a tournament in Colorado Springs in 2013. They married in 2015. Haruka, also a Para judoka, represented Japan in the Paralympic Games of 2008, 2016, and 2020. He has played a significant role as her personal coach.
