Asian Games 2026: India Complete Unbeaten Asian Games Run, Defeat Iran for Kabaddi Gold

India produced a composed and hard-fought performance to defeat Iran 40-34 in the men's kabaddi final at the Asian Games 2026 on Saturday, successfully defending their title and securing a ninth Asian Games gold medal in the sport.

The final at the Tokai Citizens Gymnasium was a closely fought battle for long periods, with neither side willing to give away easy points. India relied heavily on the raiding prowess of Arjun Deshwal and Devank Dalal, while Sumit and Jaideep played crucial roles in keeping Iran's attack under control.

Iran made the brighter start and repeatedly tested India's defence through Ali Samadi Choubtarash and Amirmohammad Zafar Danesh. However, captain Sunil Kumar immediately made an impact with a crucial Super Tackle on Mohammadreza Shadlouichiyaneh. Arjun kept India in the contest with a steady stream of raid points, but Iran eventually edged ahead and took an 18-17 lead at half-time.

India stepped up the intensity after the break. Sumit and Jaideep combined for a vital Super Tackle on Ali Samadi, before Aslam Inamdar's successful do-or-die raid brought the scores level.

The momentum then swung decisively India's way. Arjun produced a crucial raid against Iran captain Fazel Atrachali, helping India force an All-Out and establish a five-point advantage with around 10 minutes remaining.

Iran continued to fight, but India's defence remained resilient. Sumit delivered a crucial back hold on Zafar Danesh, while Rahul Sethpal produced an important tackle to preserve India's seven-point cushion late in the contest.

Iran pushed forward in the closing minutes, but Aslam Inamdar responded with two valuable points to keep India comfortably ahead. The final whistle confirmed a 40-34 victory, completing an unbeaten campaign for India.

The triumph also adds another chapter to India's remarkable Asian Games kabaddi record, with the team now boasting nine gold medals in the men's competition.
