The Kabaddi World Cup 2025, which began on Monday, is being hosted in England across four cities - Birmingham, Coventry, Walsall, and Wolverhampton - in the West Midlands. Both the Indian men's and women's teams are defending their titles in this prestigious event.
The men's competition features 10 teams split into two groups. Group A comprises Hungary, England, Poland, Germany, and the USA. Group B includes India, Italy, Scotland, Wales, and Hong Kong. After the round-robin stage, the top four teams from each group will move on to the quarterfinals, starting Friday, March 21.
Meanwhile, the women's tournament has six teams, divided into two groups. Group D consists of India, Wales, and Poland, while Group E features Hong Kong, Hungary, and England. The Indian women's team will kick off their campaign against Wales on Tuesday. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals, which are scheduled to begin on Friday.
Following the semi-finals, the third-place playoff matches for the women's and men's events will be held on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
This marks the second edition of the Kabaddi World Cup organized by World Kabaddi. India had a memorable outing in the previous edition, held in Malaysia in 2019, where both the men's and women's teams emerged victorious. The men's team defeated Iraq, while the women's team triumphed over Chinese Taipei to claim the titles.
With their opening win, the Indian team has made a strong statement, setting their sights on another successful campaign.
