Pro Kabaddi League: Gujarat Giants Announce Coaching Changes Ahead Of PKL 2025 Season

Ahead of the PKL 2025 season, Gujarat Giants have appointed Jaivir Sharma as Head Coach and Varinder Singh Sandhu as Assistant Coach to enhance the team's performance and competitiveness. The strategic changes aim to prepare for the player auction and build a strong squad.

Ahmedabad, May 21: Ahead of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2025 season, the Gujarat Giants, owned by Adani Sportsline, have announced significant changes within their coaching team. The appointments include Jaivir Sharma as the Head Coach and Varinder Singh Sandhu as the Assistant Coach.

This strategic move is aimed at enhancing the team's performance and competitiveness in the upcoming season. With the player auction scheduled from May 31 to June 1, these changes mark a pivotal step in the team's preparation for season XII, aiming for a robust lineup capable of contending for the title.

Jaivir Sharma brings to the team over thirty years of experience in kabaddi, recognised as a highly respected figure in the sport. His tenure has been marked by numerous successes, including guiding teams to victory at major international competitions such as the Asian Games and Kabaddi World Cup.

Jaivir's role with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) since 1992 highlights his significant contribution to the development of the sport and its players on both national and international stages. His appointment is expected to infuse the Gujarat Giants with tactical expertise and a winning philosophy.

"I'm excited to be joining Gujarat Giants. I look forward to developing a fearless and humble philosophy within the team, with the aim of making us one of the strongest contenders in the PKL. I'm grateful to Adani Sportsline for placing their trust in me and giving me this exciting opportunity. I'm eagerly looking forward to the PKL auction and building a strong, competitive squad," Sharma expressed his enthusiasm about his new role.

Varinder Singh Sandhu, celebrated for his 17 years of distinguished service in the Indian armed forces, steps into the PKL as the Assistant Coach of Gujarat Giants. His background includes leading the Indian women's kabaddi team to gold medals at significant events such as the 19th Asian Games 2023 and the 6th Asian Kabaddi Championship 2025.

Varinder's experience extends to coaching roles with the Punjab state team and the Indian Air Force, where he has been instrumental in building a winning mindset among athletes.

"I'm really excited to join the Gujarat Giants' family. It's an incredible opportunity to be part of one of the biggest Kabaddi leagues in the world. I'm also eager to experience the player auction for the first time and look forward to building a solid squad for the new season. I'm committed to contributing to Gujarat Giants' success and helping the team achieve its collective goals with our Head Coach [Jaivir]," Varinder said, sharing his anticipation for the upcoming season and his debut in the PKL.

The Gujarat Giants have a history of nurturing talent, demonstrated by their success in developing players like Rohit Gulia, Sachin Tanwar, and Pawan Sehrawat into stars of the league.

The team's commitment to promoting young coaching talent is evident in their support for individuals like Manpreet Singh, who rose through the ranks to become one of PKL's most successful coaches. This tradition continues with Varinder's appointment, signalling the team's ongoing dedication to fostering both player and coaching talent.
