Turnham took up cycling in 2009. She trains six times a week and credits her mother as her biggest influence. British Para athlete Rachel Morris is her hero. Turnham's story is one of perseverance and resilience. She believes that it is okay to fail but not okay to give up.
In 2017, Turnham was named Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to cycling. This honour reflects her dedication and contributions to the sport. She has also competed in Para athletics at an international level as a teenager.
