Luca Mazzone Biography

Mazz-one represented Italy in swimming at the Paralympic Games in 2000, 2004, and 2008. He won two silver medals at the 2000 Games in Sydney. However, by 2011, he was looking for a new challenge. National coach Mario Valentini invited him to try Para cycling. He soon regretted retiring from swimming but found joy in handcycling.

Handcycling Debut

He made his debut for Italy in cycling at the World Cup in Maniago, Italy, in 2013. His experiences in swimming helped him manage emotions and adrenaline, crucial for both sports. He believes that enduring mental fatigue is key to excelling in swimming and handcycling.

Philosophy and Influence

Mazz-one credits his father Giuseppe as a significant influence. His philosophy is simple: "Hard work and sacrifices bear good fruit." He remains modest even after victories, a trait instilled by his father to stay sharp and ahead of opponents.

Achievements and Awards

In 2022, he received the Sports Excellence award in the Puglia region of Italy. He was also named as one of Italy's flag bearers for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris alongside Ambra Sabatini.

Personal Life

Outside of sports, Mazz-one is an accountant by education. He is married to Mara and has a son named Yoseph. His son's joy when he wins motivates him to keep pushing forward.
