Michael Brannigan Biography

Encouraged by his father Kevin, Mikey took up running after Kevin attended a work function where he learned about an athletics team that integrated athletes with physical or intellectual impairments. This encouragement led Mikey to pursue a career in athletics.

Education and Coaching

Mikey attended Suffolk County Community College in the United States. Since 2015, he has been coached by Sonja Robinson. Her guidance has been instrumental in his development as an athlete.

Major Milestones

One of Mikey's most significant achievements came at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He became the first athlete representing the United States to win gold in the T20 1500m event. This victory remains his most memorable moment.

Awards and Recognition

In 2017, Mikey was named Male Paralympic Athlete of the Year by Team USA. Earlier, in 2014, he was recognised as a US Paralympics Track and Field High School All-American in the 800m and 1500m events.
