100 players to take part in World Squash C'ship

Chennai, Nov 15: In what would be the biggest squash event to be held in India, about 100 players, including the top ten players in the world, will be in the fray in the 21st ICL World Men's team Championship to be held at the academy courts here from December 6 to 12.

Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) Joint Secretary Srivatsan Subramaniam said Egypt, Australia, England, Pakistan, France and Malaysia would be the leading lights. England were the defending champions.

The top ten players included Amer Shabana (Egypt), Ramy Ashour (Egypt), Gregorty Gaultier (France), David Palmer (Australia), James Willstrop (England), Nick Mathew (England), Thierry Lincou (France), Karim Darwish (Egypt), Anthony Ricketts (Australia) and John White (Scotland).

The championship would be played on a league cum knock out basis with two teams from each of the eight pools qualifying for the second stage. The remaining teams would play for positions 17 to 29.
