Kolarov joined Manchester City from Roma's arch rival Lazio in 2010 for £16 million and has been a key part of City's success since touching the base, winning two Premier League titles, two League Cups and one FA Cup.

The 31-year-old was left out of the squad recently which lost to Manchester United 2-0 in the Houston friendly on Thursday (July 20), and the former Barcelona boss revealed it was the Serbian's decision as he wants a move out of the club and Guardiola does not want to stand in his way.

"I don't like to work with people who don't want to stay," the Catalan manager said after the match.

"Kola helped me a lot last season in terms of many, many things. But he had a big chance to go back to Rome where he was before and he spoke to me, the club and asked me to leave."

"I don't like to stay with players who don't want to stay. That's why its the best option for everybody. I wish him all the best because he's a really nice guy. We had an excellent relationship. I was very pleased to train him and I wish him and his family the best."

City have already let go three first team full-backs, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta after their contract expired and now with the departure of the Kolarov, the Spanish manager is all set to field a completely new set of full-backs for the upcoming season.

To solve this full-back crisis City have already signed Tottenham Hotspur right back Kyle Walker for a record £50 million deal and could also pull out the same amount of money for another left-back target Benjamin Mendy from Monaco.

Pep is also reportedly monitoring the situation of Real Madrid right-back Danilo who has can play on both the left and the right-hand side of defence as well as in midfield.
