Indians face tough draw in tennis event

By Super

Sydney: Former world number one pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have been placed in a tough Olympic tennis doubles draw, which was announced on Friday.

In the singles too, Leander Paes faces a stiff challenge from 28-year-old Mikael Tillstrom of Sweden in the first round. This is for the first time Paes, ranked 152, faces 61-ranked Tilstrom and going by his form it hardly looks likely that he will be able to defend his individual bronze medal.

In the women's section, the last minute wild card duo of Manisha Malhotra and Nirupama Vaidyaathan have been pitted against sixth seeded Australians Jelena Dokic and Rennae Stubbs in the first round and it will indeed be a miracle for the Indian pair to make it to the second round.
