Come Monday all eyes will be on Sanamachu

Sydney: Current Asian champion Sanamachu Chanu will carry India's hopes for an individual Olympic medal when she fathoms her prowess at the women's 53 kg weightlifting at the Olympics on Monday.

Chanu, considered as the trump card for her fraternity, is in real contention for medals and became the first Indian individual sportsperson in recent times to be mentioned in this context by the by the respected ''Sports Illustrated'' on the eve of the 27th Olympiad.

Coach Pal Singh Sandhu and selector Balbir Singh Bhatia had also asserted that both Chanu and former world champion Karnam Malleswari (69 kg) could be among the medals in their respective categories. Malleswari's turn will come on Tuesday.
