1800 participants to compete in Punjab Games for Women

Amritsar, Nov 2 (UNI) As many as 1800 girls will compete in 12 disciplines in the four-day Punjab State Games for Women being organised by the Punjab Sports Department here from tomorrow.

The Games have returned to the Holy City after one decade. Last year the Games were conducted at Roopnagar where Jalandhar district had bagged the overall trophy.

After reviewing the arrangements, Punjab Sports Director Pargat Singh said 150 officials have been deputed by the department for the smooth conduct of the Games.

The games will feature athletics badminton, basketball, gymnastics, hockey, handball, kabaddi, kho kho, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis and volleyball.

SSP Kanwar Vijay Partap Singh said elaborate security arrangements have been made at all venues and accommodation places.

Pargat Singh said Punjab Sports Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike will inaugurate the Games tomorrow.

Raj Mohinder Singh Majitha, MP, will be the chief guest for the closing ceremony on November 6.
