Beenamol advances with fine time in 400m

Sydney: After the disappointment in the men's field event, there was some cheer for the Indian camp in the women's track event with K M Beenamol qualifying for the semi-finals of the 400 metres event.

The 400 metres also pits Australia's new hope Cathy Freeman, who also qualified albeit at a slower time. Beenamol had the best time of 51.51 seconds. in the quarter mile, which is below her personal best of 51.21 seconds.

With none of the runners really pushing very hard, the times in all the heats were comparatively slower.
