Ding sets three world records on way to gold

By Super

Sydney: Ding Meiyuan of China set three world records in clinching gold in the over 75-kg women's weightlifting Olympic event on Friday.

She broke the snatch record with a lift of 135 kgs and followed up with a record clean-and-jerk of 165 kgs. That gave her a world best total of 300 kgs.

The previous snatch record was set minutes earlier at 132.5 kgs by Agata Wrobel (Poland). Wrobel had held the record before the competition at 130 kgs, set in July in Prague.

The clean-and-jerk record of 161.0 kgs before the competition started was set by Wang Yanmei (China) on June 9 this year in Montreal. The old total record of 290 kgs was set by Agata Wrobel in Prague.
