Singapore's Jing loses bronze medal bid

By Super

Sydney: a bid by Jing Jun Hong to win Singapore's first Olympic medal in 40 years fell short on Sunday when she lost the women's table tennis bronze medal match to Taiwan's Chen Jing.

Chen dropped the first game but was in control the rest of the way to win 18-21, 21-14, 21-15, 21-10. Singapore have not won an Olympic medal since aweightlifting silver at the Rome Games in 1960.

Chen won the gold at the 1988 Seoul Games representing China and was second four years ago playing for Taiwan.

Jing, who was born in Shanghai and became a Singaporean citizen in 1994, was once ranked 10th in the world as a member of the powerful Chinese national team.
