The 24th National Para Athletics Championship ended today at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi led the valedictory ceremony and gave awards. Haryana topped the table with 95 medals, Tamil Nadu took 51, Gujarat had 30, while hosts Odisha won 17, including 5 golds.
Addressing para-athletes, Chief Minister Majhi said they were not just athletes but “winners who have triumphed over the struggles of life.” He praised them for turning “perceived weaknesses into their greatest strengths” and called them icons of resilience for the entire country.

He urged athletes to keep working hard and target the Asian Para Games. The Chief Minister sent special wishes to the 40-member Odisha contingent. He asked them to follow Olympic medalists Pramod Bhagat and V. Ramesh Rao and said bigger success awaited on the global stage.
Shri Majhi said medal winners from Odisha should create a new identity for the state’s talent worldwide. He stressed that no obstacle could stop progress if they stayed focused. He also announced that Bhubaneswar will host the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 2028, boosting Odisha’s sports profile.

The Chief Minister said the state will grow sports through better infrastructure, talent search and strong training support, and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for continued help. The meet drew 1,460 para-athletes from 28 states. Dignitaries included Shri Suryabanshi Suraj, Shri Sachin R. Jadhav, Shri Jayawant G. H., Shri Satyanarayan and Shri Kamalakanta Rath.
