Arrest warrant for American sprinter

By Super

Santa Cruz (US): A California judge has issued an arrest warrant for US sprinter and Olympic silver medalist Alvin Harrison for failure to appear in court on charges of driving with a suspended license, a court official said.

A spokeswoman for the Santa Cruz county superior court said on Wednesday that judge John Salazar issued the warrant on August 7 after Harrison missed at least one court date in connection with a 1998 California highway patrol traffic citation.

''He just didn't show up for court so the judge issued the warrant,'' the spokeswoman said, adding that bail had been set at 2,500 dollars if Harrison should turn himself in.

Harrison, who won a silver medal in Sydney on Monday in the men's 400-metre race, is competing in the Olympics along with his twin brother Calvin. The Harrisons are due to run together in the 1,600-metre relay on Saturday, the first twins to do so in the 104-year history of the Games.
