Sydney: A 63rd minute free-kick by midfielder Renate Lingor and a well-taken goal by Birgit Prinz after 79 minutes gave Germany a deserved 2-0 win over Brazil and the bronze medal in the women's Olympic soccer tournament at the Sydney Football Stadium on Thursday.
Lingor curled the ball over the top of the wall from 20 metres out to put Germany ahead. Then Prinz scored an excellent second after collecting along ball out of midfield on her thigh, outpacing the Brazilian defenders, and shooting wide of goal-keeper Andreia to wrap up victory.
It was Germany's second win over Brazil in the competition after they beat them 2-1 in the opening group phase.
