Nirmalaya is one such individual, and she is proudly representing Odisha in rugby at the 37th National Games in Goa. Her father, Vasudev Rout, works as a farmer. She has two siblings, a brother and a sister. Despite their financial limitations, Vasudev managed to send Nirmalaya to Bhubaneswar for her education.

In addition to her studies, she ventured into the world of sports, ultimately making a name for herself. Leading her team to victory and securing the Gold in Rugby Sevens at the India University Games 2023.

Speaking about her journey so far, Nirmalaya stated, "My childhood was quite challenging; our family faced financial difficulties, and as one of three siblings, survival in such circumstances was tough without many resources."

She went on to say, "I have also represented Odisha in the Junior National and Senior Nationals. The Junior National took place in Bihar in 2022, where our team secured the second position. In the 36th National Games in Gujarat, Odisha's team emerged as champions and claimed the gold medal."

Acting on her father's advice, she left her village and headed to Bhubaneswar. There, she enrolled in the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences, where she first encountered the sport of rugby.

Nirmalaya recounted, "When I arrived in Bhubaneswar for the first time, I came across this sport. I was captivated by it and became deeply involved. I now envision a promising future for myself in rugby."

She further expressed, "Ever since I started playing rugby, my family's financial situation has gradually improved. I now aspire to provide a brighter future for my siblings and represent the nation in the same sport."

This 18-year-old athlete, who was a part of the Asian Rugby Under-18 Championship-winning team in Kathmandu, admitted, "I experience a bit of nervousness before every match, but once the first match is over, the thrill of victory naturally takes over. Witnessing the team's enthusiasm gives me the courage to compete fearlessly."

Nirmalaya is all set to grace the rugby field with her team in the 37th National Games being held in Goa. The Odisha team is determined to clinch a medal and is poised to present a spirited challenge to its competitors."
