39th National Games in 2027 Finds Host State in Meghalaya

Meghalaya has been officially designated as the host for the 39th National Games, scheduled for early 2027. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) confirmed this development in a letter from President P.T. Usha to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.

It acknowledged the state's commitment to promoting sports and its capability to organize a multi-sport event of this scale. The National Games, often referred to as India's mini-Olympics, are a significant event in the country's sports calendar.

It brings together athletes from across the nation to compete in various disciplines. Key upgrades are planned for the JN Sports Complex in Shillong, Wahiajer Stadium in Jaintia Hills, and the P.A. Sangma Integrated Sports Complex in Tura. These developments aim to enhance the state's capacity to host large-scale sporting events and provide world-class facilities for athletes.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Hosting the 39th National Games is a huge honor for Meghalaya. It reflects our dedication to sports development and our readiness to host an event of this magnitude." He also highlighted the state's successful history in organizing major sporting events, such as the North East Games in 2022 and the South Asian Games in 2016, demonstrating its capability to host large-scale events.
